What is built environment education?

Built environment education conducted in an interdisciplinary manner, connected with education in the field of visual culture, should be included in the entire process of formal and informal education. Teaching sensitivity to the quality of the environment can be realized by involving children and the young people in learning about and consciously co-shaping places in their immediate surroundings.

Dariusz Śmiechowski, Kultura przestrzeni i powszechna edukacja architektoniczna, Polska polityka architektoniczna, 2018

Built environment education is the key to understanding what surrounds us and a tool for co-creating reality in harmony between the future and the past, and between human needs and the needs of nature.

Professor Grażyna Schneider-Skalska

The concept of education about space (as it can also be called) was already sprouting in many Western countries at the end of the 20th century. Its evolution has proceeded at different rates, and depending on local conditions and the level of public awareness in individual countries, there have emerged various methods, programs and tools for the realisation of educational objectives.
